They put IB programs in poor schools in Northern VA. Most people would much rather have plenty of AP classes than an IB program. Maybe the IB is what draws the international kids but they are full pay and don't need AP credits.
I have a good friend who works in college admissions at a top-30 university. I asked him about his impression of the IB curriculum since I wasn’t familiar. He said kids who do well in the IB diploma program are very well regarded in college admissions. More and more, the AP program is being exposed as a racket. Kids encouraged to take the classes/tests because colleges will look favorably on it, which I am sure is true, but then the top schools often don’t allow the classes to count toward credit, which has always been the College Board’s big selling point. They just keep piling up the $$$$ and your kid is back in Calc I even though he took AP Calc.
