There is a difference between articulating an idea and planning and staging a coordinated effort across many states and thousands of people to actually stage a coup.

There were people who protested an individual state here and there over the years, mostly to articulate grievances around voter suppression, but of course the GOP equates that with what happened on 1/6 as the same thing.
