My middle school kids made fun of those who cared a lot about fashion. For my artsy, non-athletic kids, they liked concert t-shirts from obscure or indie bands, cargo shorts or pants, basic zip-up hoodies, Doc Martens. Very unisex clothing- even for straight kids. Dresses would be a no. For my athletic kids, shorts and sweats from popular athletic brands like Nike or Champion. Lululemon and Athleta are frowned upon as “too bougie” or “tryhard”.
Agree. DD is a jock, doesn't care about clothes. Wears sports stuff all the time because its easier. But the overall point here is that artsy, jocky, trendy, nerdy kids are all ok. At least in my two kids MS experience, no one made fun of anyone for their fashion choices. I wouldn't send your daughter in a smocked dress and bow, but really its all ok. Send her in a shirt dress and leggings if it makes her comfortable. It will be fine.
