I did an induction for this reason, because I was over 35 (I believe that is where the data applies, though I could be wrong). I think if I had a second child, I would not do an induction. The cervidil itself actually led to my going into labor, but then they still gave me pitocin. Then my contractions were too intense and we had a lot of issues with the baby's heart rate, which I know understand to be due to the induction process vs. natural labor. At one point they ran in and put oxygen on me. Between that and aside from pushing for 3 hours and him having to be vacuumed out, all it all it was not a great experience for me. All of this said, I can't say for sure that it was due to being induced and I know everyone's experience is different.  BUT I just wouldn't take induction lightly if it is not medically necessary. Yes I had a severe hemorrhage after my induction, very scary and required two blood transfusions and I was still anemic for months and months. There was no retained placenta so it was probably a pitocin affect since pitocin increases likelihood of hemorrhage. So I would definitely not have one if i had a choice, after that experience.

In general I think it is best to stay pregnant as long as you SAFELY can and let the baby grow stronger and your body become more ready. Obviously emphasis on SAFELY and don’t F around with situations with medical indications where it is advised. But even with things like advanced maternal age I’d still push and push doc and ask what’s the absolute latest date you can go in. [/quote]

I agree with much of this, also had a complication with my first that was likely exacerbated by cervadil, I think (placenta stuck to uterus and pulled uterus out a bit).

BUT since I’m 45 which is crazy OLD,  I agree with my drs not to exceed 39 weeks.  If I was 38 I might push back knowing what I know now.

My second baby actually came early at 38.  Hoping this happens again to avoid chemical inducing.  Will probably eat lots of spicy food and exercise to try to encourage it. [/quote]
