When a driver causes a death like this, they should go to prison for 1 year. Same thing should happen when a driver hits someone legally in the crosswalk and they die.

It's absurd that negligent idiots like this driver just get a slap on the wrist with a minimal fine and an insurance rate hike. They don't even get their license suspended. The only time they are punished is if they are inebriated. It's not enough.[/quote]

Or the law is sophisticated enough to realize accidents happen and sometimes majority of the fault is with the victim.  If you’re riding a dirtbike with no headlights at night in Bethesda, well stupid stuff happens to stupid people. I feel worse for the driver who most likely isn’t built for the mind games that come with taking a life. [/quote]

Did you read the first post? Two-thirds of motorcycle deaths are where the motorcyclist had the right-of-way and the driver made a left turn in front of the cyclist. That's pure negligence on the part of the driver. If you cause an accident that takes a life on the roadway through such a blatant mistake, you should get a year in jail. Same if you hit a pedestrian in a crosswalk who had the right-of-way and kill them. Boom, one year in jail.

Toss a couple of UMC soccer moms, lawyer dads, and grannies in jail for a year. I bet you driving deaths and incidents plunge fast.[/quote]
