Please read the thread. I explained for lay people what is and isn’t taxable.

If you have a reference for a way we don’t have to pay tax on my husband’s income, please do share! I’m sure his church and our accountant (who specializes in ministers taxes) would also love to know![/quote]

Secular/diocesan priests do not vow poverty and are taxed (with some occupational adjustments) like anyone else.

“Order” priests (Franciscans, Dominicans, etc.) do vow poverty and hence (at least as far as they and the Order are concerned) have no claim to their earnings, which belong to the Order. I didn’t really look very far into it, but at least some cases seem to turn on who the religious is working for (an Order entity or something else) and who the checks are made out to (the individual or the Order).

So some priests definitely have potential tax liability but others may not depending on circumstances. [/quote]
