My takeaways (from an EOTP and staying there perspective): 1) if you’re waiting until you’ve got a rising 5th grader to figure out middle school, you’re actually fine. I see two solid middle school feeder options on this list for 5th grade (Mondo Verde -> DCI and Thompson -> SWW@FS). So those loving their IB elementary school but not their middle school feed can breathe a bit easier. Even with a crap lotto number, you can make it work. 2) if you’re in a middle school you love with a bad feeder and are waiting to figure out 9th, that’s a bit rockier. Eastern or Roosevelt are probably your best lotto options if you don’t get into an application school and get a crap number. Even Soujourner Truth and Washington Leadership Academy didn’t make this list.
5th grade at MV would be awfully hard for a kid that didn’t speak Spanish. Also, I don’t think if SWW@FS as an upgrade from SH (do most?) and kids can walk right into an SH feeder easily.
There are many, many families that either speak Spanish at home or are in DCPS immersion schools that could switch to MV without a hitch.
I’m looking at the list and they have 9 people on the waitlist for 5th. There are no spots and there are a hell of a lot of bilingual DCPS families looking for middle school feed. No idea where PP says there are spots. Also no spots whatsoever the rest of the grades at either campuses.
This data is just a snapshot. Many more grades and schools will be added to the list from now until October. You can use the historic waitlist data to get a sense of which schools go far into and clear waitlists regularly.
