I sort of hate you for making me click through all of this - but also it's really amazing to see how glamorous the moms look. I guess makeup and hair was very different in a lot of these cases - more natural smiles and lighting, too, I think.
I always think this when I watch movies from the 40s and the 50s. Women as young as 23-25 just look so so poised and polished and glamorous. I think it's the posture, speech, clothes hair and makeup all rolled into one!
I am PP - and for me this is so different from movies from the 40s and 50s! (Though my lord were women glamorous there, too.) Here it's more the 70s, 80s, and 90s. They have wild hair and big smiles, and just look like they are actually having fun. It's one of the things that looks so sad in photos of young people, today - they looks so uptight. Overly sexualized (but not actually having sex), overly made up, and then taking just constantly taking photos instead of enjoying their young lives. I'm sure they're having a better time than I realize. It was - of all people - the photo of Kris Jenner smiling, with the pic of Kim K at the same age, that really drove that home for me. Kris just looked free in a different way than Kim did.
I think the main difference is that Kris Jenner was more naturally good looking than her daughters. That's why a candid of Kris Jenner looks better than Kim all made up. The counterpoint is Zooey Deutch and Lea Thompson - both very attractive women.
Oh gosh Lea Thompson - my youth comes back. Even she and her daughter, you still sort of see it - though her daughter doesn't look overly sexualized or miserable, at least. But she's still styled and coated with makeup in a way that looks like armor, while Lea looks like she could get up from this photo session and go out and do something fun. Maybe what I'm just saying is that I miss being able to see people's actual skin instead of an air brushed, glazed, botoxed to death coat of armor.
PP here - I agree completely. It's sort of boring now that everyone is styled within an inch of their life.
+1 What a great thread! Life really was better before social media, it seems. "The Social Media Look" is so overdone and so obvious now. The bolded is so true - no one looks like a real human any more - they look like aliens - same lips, same fake orange skin, same expression, same translucent beyond white teeth. People looked so much better, prettier and healthier back then. The Look is even more embarrassing when moms take part - everything about it is fake, fake, fake.
