Weird flex to be too cool for the school your kid is going to attend (not pike those flyover nerds he'll be attending with!), but: congrats?
Thought the same thing. Learned about school spirit much?
NP, and I would never say never about this stuff (one of my kids struggled for a while in elementary school, and when he got an honor student decal in middle school, he wanted me to put it on my car, which I did), but why would strangers care where my kid goes to college? I'll tell the neighbors I chat with, because I'm sure it will come up.
I have young elementary kids, so I’m still pretty far removed from the college signs yet. But I care because, well it’s hard to explain. I guess it’s like looking at people’s fun Halloween decor, or Christmas lights, or new spring plantings. We live in a pretty dense/walkable neighborhood so we go on lots of walks. I might not know every neighbor, but I get a smile out of seeing the Happy 5th Birthday yard signs, the giant skeletons, the new front porch addition added on to someone’s house, the pretty wreaths hung on windows … seeing the yard signs pop up of kids getting admitted to college is just … joyful I guess is the right word? It’s a sign of life going on around me. Because my kids are so young I was pretty out of touch about college admissions going on until our HS babysitter mentioned her acceptance and I saw a few yard signs go up. And it makes me happy for all the college kids about to start their young adults lives in various parts of the country. I guess I may be tacky to some for liking this stuff but oh well!
