There's nothing about the Algebra MCAP in there. Our MS counselor was surprised about the req for 4 years of math in HS regardless of MS math taken.

Making all the kids take 4 years of math no matter where they are is absolutely ridiculous. [b]My DD is in honors geometry in 8th and rather finish 1 year of Calc after sophomore year and go onto to other AP courses that interest her.[/b]

Forcing these kids to take math courses 99% of the population won’t ever use or need, is ridiculous.

Forcing kids who struggle at math to go past Algebra 1, while not making financial literacy mandatory is also insane.

Let these kids explore in high school. Stop the cookie cutter. [/quote]

The reason for the law is that math is a critical life skill that should be practiced every year, like Language Arts.

Computer Science and Statistics both counts for math reuqirement.

Students who don't want more math have the option to slow down and spread the math across 4 years, with the 2-year Alg 2 option [b]and the GPA-boosting 2-year AP calc option, per this chart.[/b]

It is a shame that there is no option for a micro economics / personal finance class for math credit. Financial Mathematics and Quantitative Literacy courses exist(ed) but do not seem to be widely available.

Why am I missing the 2 year Calc option on this?  And why is it GPA boosting?  I thought the 2yr Alg 2 option is not highly looked at by colleges [/quote]

I think the 2-year calculus pathway referred to as GPA boosting is AP A/B and AP B/C.  GPA boosting because A/B content is repeated (albeit more quickly) in B/C[/quote]
