The millions of people who have recently come and will come in the next few years who are claiming asylum can work legally after one year if they haven’t had a court appearance. There is such a backlog that there are a Tun of legal recent integrantes who can lawfully work.
And there's a huge backlog because Republicans have consistently refused to allow more judges to be hired to clear the backlog, going all the way back to Obama and earlier. Republicans complain about them being turned loose to await their hearing (which may take two years or more due to the backlog) yet haven't fixed the resource problem or changed the laws contributing to this problem.
March, 2022:
For each of the past seven fiscal years, Congress has appropriated additional money for the Department of Justice to hire more immigration judges. Congress approved money for 55 new immigration judges to be added in Fiscal Year 2016; 10 in Fiscal 2017; 100 in Fiscal 2018; 50 in Fiscal 2019; 100 in Fiscal 2020; 100 in Fiscal 2021; and 100 in Fiscal 2022. But as of December, there were only 576 immigration judges on board, and the backlog of immigration cases is at the highest in history. Currently, there is enough federal money for the Executive Office of Immigration Review, the agency that is part of DOJ that oversees the U.S. immigration court system, to fund 634 immigration judges.
https://www.borderreport.com/immigration/congress-oks-money-for-more-immigration-judges-but-case-backlog-continues-to-worsen/ Of course, when you let in over 2 million migrants in 2 years, the backlog is only going to worsen. Might that be Biden's strategy here???
Wow that is not many people and historically low for the US. No wonder we have such demand for workers.
Good grief. Do some research. The 2 million are those who entered illegally and does not include people who did things the right way and applied to come in. And it doesn’t include the over 1.3 million got aways since Biden took office.
No it is you who need to “do the research”. Your numbers are way off.
