My 8th grade TPMS magnet student (taking geometry now) said the teacher warned them that the last month or so of school will be just constant testing, with maybe one week of a break in tests. DC is pissed and really prefers actual learning, especially to prepare for their being the the Blair STEM magnet next year.
Its going to be a huge issue for some kids who aren't being allowed to test at all for the high school programs. We are in virtual and our home school is supposed to test our kids but they will not even respond to emails. I do't see the issue with testing. If your kid is in magnet then shouldn't they be in Algebra2 this year?
No, the only kids who take Algebra 2 in 8th grade are at wealthy Potomac MS, which accelerated 6th graders with sufficiently high MAP scores, or kids who went to a wealthy Potomac ES, which offers AIM in 5th grade. If you live elsewhere in Moco, you're out of luck no matter how high your scores are...
Not true. My 8th grader is in Algebra 2 and he definitely did not attend elementary or middle school anywhere near Potomac.
I'd heard this before, but when anyone asks, they can't name the school because it isn't true.
Oak View is one. There was an employee who responded to a thread a few years back who said that several of the CES kids were taking AIM in 5th grade.
It sounds like it is an option for some and others just skip aim.
