Puberty is an unpredictable beast. Who would have predicted that Neville Longbottoms actor would have turned out so good? https://images.app.goo.gl/ojsP7YF9fRyVCEip6
This is funny because if you watch these things enough, you realize the Neville is the unsung real hero of HP. In each critical plot point, Neville does something without which everyone would be lost. So I am team Neville all the way. He’s my favorite character.
Same! And in a way, I think Neville and Luna are better students than Hermione is. They're neurodivergent in an environment that doesn't really support their brain wiring, but they persevere anyway and have great interest in their specific talents. Hermione is about grades, not intellectual curiosity.
In defense of Hermione, I see her as both grade focused and intellectually curious. I do love Luna and Neville, though. Before the last books came out I was hoping that the twist would be that the prophecy was actually about Neville instead of Harry.
Dude, I totally agree it would've been amazing if the prophecy turned out to have been about Neville. About Hermione...nah. She pooh-poohs Trelawney and her class because the subject isn't made for brain wiring like Hermione's. So instead of humbling herself and being willing to think outside the box, Hermione is like, f*** this class, it's all a fraud anyway and flounces off. She's proven wrong at the end of the book. I mean, her boggart is about failing a test or something, isn't it? That's a major sign that she's not genuinely here to learn, she's doing all of this to run from her fear of failure. She doesn't want to learn things unless she can use the knowledge to her advantage, including being "the best". If there's a subject she can't shine at, then she discredits it. There's a reason why Luna is in Ravenclaw but Hermione isn't.
