If it was clear to them that they were getting a deal because it was high season then I would ask them to pay the cancellation fee.

I don't agree with all the other people that are aghast that you would take money from family or that you should have blacked out the dates/not entertained the request. That's not how my family would handle either situation and we certainly wouldn't leave a family member in the lurch if we backed out.
