With 3 kids in private and 340 HHI we got 6-10% at two schools. Those $3-5,000 each will help a lot, but we watch everything we spend money on. We are definitely among the poorest people in our schools. Families with similar income (there are a few) usually only have 1 kid in private.
There is a difference between being poor and being in a budget. You are not poor. You have chosen to put 3 kids through private school, which puts a large dent even in your *hefty* income. But you are not poor.
I am definitely not poor, but I would guess that we are in the bottom 25% of the school income wise. Kids are in elementary so possible that “poorer” families will join in highschool since it’s only 4 years of tuition.
If you know you're not poor, then maybe use another word? I'm the $80K single parent from above. I would never use the word poor to describe our family. And yes, the vast majority of families in our school have higher incomes than we do. That doesn't mean we're poor. It means they (and you) are wealthy.
Again, I never said we are poor. I said we are poorer than most other families. If you prefer, I can say “less rich”. It means the same for me
