She could have said that it was a tough loss, but that she is so proud of how far they came.  Then, she could have gone around and spoken to each player personally.  It was her K teacher tone--and, I was a K teacher and, while I talked on their level, I did not "talk down" to them.  She was talking down.

+1   I definitely felt Kindergarten vibes during her praise for the college athletes for "playing to the last minute...you didn't stop.. until the very last second you didn't stop... you inspired the world"
