So no one has been paying student loans back at all for several years? I had no idea. Jesus, no wonder inflation has been crazy.
Tons of people have been paying during 0% interest because it is a chance to get the principal down, which is what been holding them back this whole time. The new IDR plan hasn’t even gone into effect so that’s counting chickens before they hatch. Also, the 20 year plan only applies to undergrad loans. For grad it is 25 and the amount you’re required to pay based on income during those 25 years means you’d usually have the loan paid off before any forgiveness at the end. Finally, any forgiveness amount is taxable after 2026.
