I’ve had kids in both. Eastern provides a far more rigorous experience academically, but the commute is a pain and the school-within-a-school vibe isn’t great. As others have said, Westland is not strong academically, but has a great principal and is very kind, inclusive. I think it’s basically a choice between academics and…everything else.[/quote]

This isn't completely accurate. It has the exact same academic opportunities available at any MCPS MS. The same kid CAN do as well there as anywhere. The overall standardized test averages may differ slightly because of SES/demographics differences, but not exactly the same thing.[/quote]

You are incorrect. The Eastern magnet classes are not available at Westland. It’s a competitive magnet, not a general-education program like Westland. [/quote]
