Never happened at our daycare in the 2 years I was there. Staff were not dismissed in the evening unless ratios were met. The Director or Asst. Dir. would constantly go room to room in the evening and headcount and then motion that Ms. x could leave. The ratios and age separation exist for a reason.
Good to know. I am also concern about extra exposure to viruses, with my child being placed in various rooms and interacting with more people he has higher chances to get sick It is not just new kids, but also new teachers in the last 30 minutes of the day when he is tired already
The ratio thing is concerning but the pooling of kids is incredibly common unfortunatley and you will find it at most centers. it's just a necessity when you can't have staff working 9,10, 11 hours and the daycare is open that long. Basically if you want a center to be open past 5 pm you're going to have some pooling in most centers. You are right about the concerns of pooling, this is not an option for everyone but if it's possible alter your work schedule so it is earlier to earlier, that helped us to avoid this. Again understand this isn't an option for everyone.
