Not true. We often get packages that need signing. Just last week DH had something delivered that he mentioned to me and i immediately forgot about. Luckily I opened the door for the delivery person and signed for it- DH wasn’t home. 
Generally, I’ll see who it is then decide on opening the door- clearly a delivery person (UPS truck, etc), neighbor or kid then I’ll open the door; someone who looks like a solicitor, then no.

I had an interesting experience a few weeks ago when I did open for a solicitor. I’m white and the solicitor started accusing me of being fearful of him (black male). He was saying things like “ I can tell I’m making you uncomfortable and it’s probably bc I’m a black male- look I’m stepping back..” I was mostly stunned and thinking “what the heck is he trying to sell.” He left without selling anything and saying he was leaving because i clearly didn’t want him there. Umm-yeah, no one likes solicitors knocking on their doors.

Do you happen to live in Cleveland Park? I have had an ear identical experience twice with the same man (months apart in his visits) accusing me of similar things with very similar if not identical language and never actually trying to sell me anything. I’ve been baffled both times by the experience as all I did was open my door when he knocked.and he almost instantly accused me of being afraid of him because he was Black. All I did was open my door and say hello…[/quote]
