No wants to see a senior citizen geriatric show of someone 40 years past her prime
+1 The only reason I agree with this is because Madonna hasn't gracefully accepted her age. Apparently all her self-worth was bound up in her beauty and sex appeal, and she has no idea who she is without that. Pathetic, really. Jennifer Lopez is going down that road too.
Yeah, I dunno. I agree that she has some issues. But there’s a lot of misogyny wrapped up in your comment. I don’t think there’s a way for a woman of her stature to “gracefully accept her age” to your liking. Either she’s a plastic surgery addict or has let herself go and needs to fade away. No one says the same thing about even older male artists who continue to tour etc. It’s a Celebration tour celebrating all her greatest hits over the past 40 years. I would regret it if I never saw her in concert, so I’m going and I’m excited about it. I hope she is on time!!
I didn't that comment was misogynistic. Madonna pouncing on 21-year old year boys and her other erratic behavior doesn't reflect well on her, and it should be okay to point that out. Of course there's a way for a "woman of her stature" to age gracefully, are you kidding me? It's called self-esteem. Or self-worth, as PP said. Clearly all that time Madonna spent bleating about the Kabbalah didn't do anything for her.
So, who are the older women singers who are older and have cultural relevance? She’s chasing that in a society that just wants old women to go away. I would not do what she does. But isn’t this pretty much her since she was 25? The plastic surgery is new but the rest isn’t. And now that she’s old, people don’t like it. But if she were just down asexual old lady, they would just ignore her anyway. Can’t win, and for someone who has held the public gaze forever, I’m sure it does cause mental health issues.
Off the top of my head: Barbara Streisand, Sade, Cher, Celine Dion, Tina Turner (retired but still) could each announce a tour tomorrow and their tickets would sell out.
