If your kids aren't good, you can take a vacation. If your kids are good, expect people to give you the side eye if you skip meets.
 That’s ridiculous. If anything there will be parents glad their kid then has a chance at A meets. We had club kids skip meets for PVS LC meets and no one looked sideways at those kids.
I would guess a mix of both - some parents happy their kids get to make the A meet and/or relay team, but some who are disappointed because it hurts the team in a close meet. For the kids, a big part of summer swim, and what makes it fun, is the team aspect. There is a lot more cheering for each other and caring how your teammates perform. Compared to winter swim, where everyone is just swimming for themselves with almost no team aspect. And like any team sport, when an important player is missing, it hurts the team.
I think the only people mad are the parents who care, and that is not a very large number. My kids have been doing summer swim for years at a pool that is in the top few divisions and I can only come of with a handful of parents who I've ever heard care about meet outcomes
