We purchased two dream new vehicles over the summer. Loved them and dreamed about having something this nice after years of frugal modest cars. But honestly, six months later we're sort of bored with them. Is this bored feeling what fuels the upper middle class to always trade in for the latest and greatest (SUVs especially)? I don't necessarily think we're clamoring for something more expensive, just something different.
What do you mean by “bored”? Like it’s not entertaining to drive the car, or you don’t feel proud of it? The used car market is booming - you can certainly sell your cars and either lease/buy new cars. We got a Tesla a few years ago that I was planning to drive for the next 10-20 years. I don’t care about “dream cars” but I was excited to have an ev that would last 500k miles, powered by our home solar. But the used car market was so hot that we ended up selling and buying and selling and buying and selling at a profit and now we are on our 4th or 5th new car, I can’t even remember. I don’t get excited about cars other than efficiency and fact that we charge our ev’s for free, so I hope we are done with car hopping. Do you have a partner and do they feel the same way? If so, sell the cars and get new ones, but know that the hollow feeling you have won’t go away once you get your new “dream car”. I know plenty of people who just lease because they always want to have a new car every few years.
