Summer dates haven't been disclosed officially, but I made a good estimation of dates just based of the calendar in response to a question about the second session in this thread:

"Tuesday June 20 is the last day for teachers (finish grades) and 6/21 to 6/23 are listed as emergency closure make-up days. If we don't need those make-up days, they could start summer school Session I on Wednesday 6/21, but I think Monday 6/26 is more likely. This puts the end of I as 7/14. So, the earliest for Session II would be Monday 7/17, with end 8/4. It is possible that they could start a week later, or start Session I on Wednesday and have a couple days break, or have a week break. So I would also consider going in to the week ending 8/11 possible. However the fall sports practices begin Wednesday 8/9, so I would guess that session II last day has to be 8/8.

Block out 7/12 through 8/8, to capture possible mid-week start or end, but 7/17 to 8/4 is probably the 3 weeks. (for Session II)"

And just to get everyone on the same page regarding Health B, the new requirement applies to class of 2025 (next year's juniors) & up.

The in-person Health B course has been developed and is being offered at all schools beginning next year. I think that right now most HS's are recommending full year PE for 9th graders and full year Health for 10th graders. The online version for Health B is supposed to be developed next year and offered summer of 2024.

Whether or not Health B is offered in-person this summer at individual HSs depends on the usual factors for summer school - interest from teachers in teaching a course and demand from students for the course. Another factor that may be in play this summer is funding. The expanded summer school offerings the past 2 years came out of CARES/ESSER funding. Prior to that, it cost $300 per semester class in summer school.

In the past, many students saved taking Health A until 2nd semester senior year so that they had an easier last semester. While some students in class of 2024 may have already taken Health A (taking advantage of expanded, free summer school offerings) there may still be a lot of students who haven't, and the HS is just assuming everyone will take Health as a full year course in 11th or 12th grade. If you really want to take Health B in-person this summer at your HS, my recommendation would be to find other students/parents at your school also wanting that class and then as a group advocate to the principal for the class. You could also work through the PTA to ask how many students in class of 2024 have completed A already, to understand the size of the problem.[/quote]

It’s an awkward scheduling issue to have a one semester required course, because you have to balance it out with a one semester elective. Students who already took Health A were likely planning to take a full year course senior year. They would be the most interested in a summer offering this summer and it gives an indication of possible demand. Students who haven’t taken Health A yet are planning for it to be full year.

From a principal’s perspective and scheduling issues, if there’s only 20-30 kids who need just Health B, it’s less likely to fill a summer class and too big a deal to absorb those extra kids into existing semester B sections. If there’s more than 100 kids, that becomes a bigger impact on scheduling where you need more sections in semester B (and fewer electives). It’s also more likely that you can get enough interest to fill a summer section.[/quote]
