What would you wear to church or temple? That is what works for (most) brunches, too. You might also consider getting a fun printed skirt that you can pair with tops already in your closet. This might give you more flexibility than a single new dress. I'd get some cute shoes, too. As for declining brunch b/c of wardrobe limitations.... Which is more important to you, spending time with friends or looking cute? I admit that I am a bit insecure and hate looking inappropriate for the occasion, but when it comes down to it, I'm always glad I spent time with friends, even if my outfit wasn't up to snuff. Friends have a way of making you forget things like what you look like.
As a general proposition, you are correct that spending time with friends is more important. Had I thought about it more I definetly would have gone especially since with everyone being so busy those get togethers are few and far between. At the time I had just had my child but it defiently made me realize that since I am now in my mid-30's I need to have a wardrobe that is more flexible(one isn't just yoga pants for the house or work slacks). Maybe I've been watching too much Mad Men? Who knows? But you're point is well taken PP! And thanks for the advice on the skirt and shoes. And to whoever posted the Boden link, thanks!! I have never heard of that site but love their dresses and even the clothes for little girls.
