There has been a serious effort by SSIMS to recruit RCF students for its spanish immersion program.  Some students have gome to SSIMS, but most continue to Westland.  Westland's and RCF's principals have told the RCF community that the are no plans to discontinue the current SI classes at Westland.
I have had 2 children at RCF, and as most posters say, there are ++ and --.  There are some problems, but for us, becoming fluent in a second language makes it worthwhile.  If you are looking for a school that will help get your kids into MS magnet programs, look elsewhere- RCF's academics aren't the strongest, and only Math 6 is offered.  I'm not saying you can't get a great education at RCF or get into a magnet program, but the focus is more on learning spanish and deveolping a good accent, and not pushing kids to advanced levels in reading and math.  For us, its a compromise, because our home ES school is fabulous, but we are commited to the language aspects of the program and are happy with our choice.  And neither my husband or I speak spanish, so we don't help much with homework.  I also think the RCF students receive less homework than students in other MoCo elementary schools, which I view as a good thing.
