Kindergarten teacher again. I didn't see this reply. Do your homework because plenty of people go on a school's reputation and not specifics. Is it a "good" school because mostly white, UMC kids go there? If so, look further.[/quote]

Nope. I turn it down because of the crappy choices in curriculum. Look closely at what is used for literacy instruction. Lots and lots of kids are not taught to read and kids in wealthier areas end up supplementing with tutors so nobody knows how terrible the curriculum is.[/quote]

I wonder about this too. How much of a "good school's" test scores are being artificially propped up by parents who do a little parallel schooling at home after school, on weekends and/or over the summers? I do this with my kids and I know at least half a dozen other kids in my DD's class whose parents got their own little stack of workbooks. One classmate apparently brings them to school to do at school. [/quote]
