I was not part of the discussion. My husband asked his brother if he wanted the furniture. He said yes. BIL wanted to get a Uhaul and wanted DH and other mutual friends to help him move at 7am on a Saturday. Dh said no. Other mutual friends also said no. DH told BIL to get movers and gave him our mover’s contact info. Furniture got delivered and BIL said we would be paying the bill. I was actually not part of any of the discussions.[/quote]

Yeah, would a real mover let you keep the furniture without payment? Not in my experience. Clearly the receiver should pay in most circumstances, but it sounds like DH and BIL have a dynamic where DH pays. Is BIL younger and poorer? So if DH always pays for everything, I can see how BIL assumed if the arrangement wasn't made explicit "I have a friend who can move the furniture, if you are willing to pay him."[/quote]
