For a week to 10 days I would do Belize : start in jungle do cave swim, Mayan ruin hikes etc then go snorkeling diving in ambergris caye then hit the beaches further south. Your budget will be fine there.

I’d also suggest Costa Rica for a longer trip but know that the beaches are not as beautiful. However the activities and wildlife is worth it. You could start out fly into San Jose and immediately  transfer to the osa peninsula,’do several days at a lodge hiking, snorkel
Cami island etc then go up to arenal, maybe do volcano hiking etc. and end up at a beach resort (I prefer samara but lots of nice ones in guancaste) and fly back from Liberia. Or you could go to tortuguero and then hit the Caribbean coast which does have surfing good beaches.

Or for 10k why not Thailand? The flights will be $ but the rest won’t be. A few days Chiang mai and then hit different beach towns etc.[/quote]
