DS was on a sports team out of Chevy Chase once. We live in SS and he goes to a SS magnet school. Those moms would NOT believe it was MCPS -- they kept saying, are you sure that isn't in DC or PG? We've never heard of it. Blah blah blah I also once had a Bethesda mom ask me in shock if there were really parks in Silver Spring suitable for kids to actually play in. I don't know what they think is going on over here :)
Do you think they were that stupid or was it just a veiled put-down? The line between ignorance and malice can be a fine one.
That is a very good question, and I'm just not sure. I think the "parks" mom was just clueless -- she was very nice and eager for our kids to get together, etc. etc. She and I spent a lot of time chatting and socializing and a put-down wouldn't have been consistent with that. s The other moms -- again, not sure. They were nice enough and weren't directly snotty to me but kind of insular. It's really interesting because my son plays on a lot of teams and the ones from our own neighborhood are very welcoming, even if we don't know anyone, but I have not found this to be the case for the three team's he's played on in Chevy Chase, Bethesda and Potomac. Some of it could just be that they've been together for a while and know each other, but there's something .... it's hard to say.
