Personal essay is required and you better have a great personal essay when its acceptance rate is under 10%
They do not require anything more than the Common App Essay. No school-specific essay. Makes applying easy. Weird.
Why do you want to make it difficult?? Weird. Kids already have done all the real work for 4 years, all the extracurricular activities, and then tests & the main essay. The school would have plenty of info already whether an applicant is right fit. Throwing in an extra 'why our school' wouldn't even make much difference. Kudos to Northeastern for making it a little bit easier for the already stressed kids.
The don't require it for ED apps? Seems like that it would be important at that stage.
They don't need it especially for ED apps. ED applicants decided after extensive research and shows the biggest demonstrated interest to the school. You have plenty data and the personal essay says much.
Northeastern is not that popular as an ED choice and they let in over 50% of ED applicants anyway!
