I got the flu about a month after I started teaching. I think I had two sick days by that point so I ended up taking a third and fourth day unpaid.[/quote] This is page 65 of the contract: “ 4. Advance of Sick Leave—At the beginning of each school year, a unit member is advanced sick leave that will be earned during the school year. Sick leave in excess of the amount to be earned may be advanced by the Employee and Retiree Service Center. ”[/quote] What isn’t explained is that if you use more leave than 10 days and you don’t have more saved up, you go unpaid AND the next fall, they subtract those days. I had a kid who was a sickly baby and toddler. I was in the red for leave for almost 4 years.[/quote]
