Don't worry , they will be back on the street before bedtime
Did you see the two suspects are allegedly minors? Wow just wow. [twitter]https://twitter.com/TomPelissero/status/1564046489889931265[/twitter]
This is becoming so common— so many of the carjackings/armed robberies on the Hill and in NE are being committed by teens. Why aren’t more people talking about how this is an inevitable result of shuttering schools for a year, leaving many teenagers who are susceptible of falling into this kind of behavior twisting in the wind? Is it surprising that we suddenly have a bunch of 13-17 yr olds running around robbing people? How many of these kids just kind of disappeared from DCPS during the closures?
This has nothing to do with school closures and everything to do with culture.
It’s obviously both. Duh.
+1, the whole point is that for kids who are growing up in a culture of lawlessness, attending school may be their only or best exposure to another way of being. There are absolutely kids in DC for whom compulsory school attendance is the biggest thing keeping them from starting with the petty theft in MS and working their way up to this. Can schools fix the problem? No. But if you don’t think a year of “virtual school” (i.e. unsupervised free time because these are not kids whose parents are making sure they are attending home room at the kitchen table on a tablet) made this problem worse, you aren’t paying attention. If kids aren’t in school, they find other ways to entertain themselves.
