81% receive institutional grants or scholarships https://nces.ed.gov/collegenavigator/?q=dickinson&s=all&id=212009#finaid
To OP (we looked at Dickenson) -most parents in the dmv area will not get any financial aid per the FAFSA so, like us, are full pay. All we qualified for were the standard unsubsidized $5500 student loans (increases a bit with each year) that all FAFSA applicants get. Our kids were applying to top schools where there is little merit so received nothing but the $5500 per year. That rules out a lot of the private SLACs like Dickenson now at $73-85k a year notwithstanding having saved for college since birth. So both went instate public which turned out great! But my point in posting is that when you see a college brag that 81 percent of our students are receiving aid, the school is technically correct but that aid is not coming from the school - included in that percentage are most of the families reading this who file the FAFSA but will not qualify for either merit or financial aid but take the $5500 FAFSA unsubsidized loans just because that’s the smart thing to do (or was when interest rates were low). Also having some loans that the kids must sign off on wakes the child up to the fact that they have some skin in the game, which, I think, is a good thing. My message is to go public and bank the difference to save for grad school. That’s where you can really help your kid financing an expensive law or mba degree
