The ongoing degradation of the American education system is an under-reported on phenomenon.

For whatever reason (though a few of us have ideas) we're definitely falling behind.  We've been comparing curriculums lately trying to decide between our options - comparing of a "top midwest public and catholic school" 30 years ago vs what they do in "top FCPS / AAP" and misc privates shows a shocking regression in curriculum.  Not to mention a regression in parental involvement.  (Or outright excluding parents, which is seemingly top-of-mind for many seeking catholic / christian schools.)

Hopefully we'll figure it out sooner than later.

OP - to your question it's going to depend place to place.  We've just gone through the same thing, and the heads of school are pretty upfront about their views regarding parental involvement and curriculum.  If they're not, and you're not getting a good vibe, just move on.  Quite a few schools to choose from.[/quote]
