I hope all your children receive placement and receive the services that they need. Please advocate and reach out to your board member, PSL and other decision makers. This is the 2nd year now for staffing shortages. With the exodus of special ed teachers, this is going to keep repeating itself unless changes are implemented. They need to offer flexible options if there aren’t enough teachers, including private tutors. And early registration like parents have to do for summer camps.
They should, but they will not. FCPS routinely denies services based on staffing. They don’t come out and state it, but when they start pulling services a child needs and there’s only only PT SLP for a school of 750 kids, it’s pretty obvious what is going on. ESY is no exception.
And in ES the kids themselves can't really keep track. When we don't have enough subs for an given day, the jobs that are left unfilled are usually Cross Cat teachers and aides.
