For those of you faulting Spiva's campaign funding, remember that Schwalb is a long-time partner at a giant law firm and easily could have funded his campaign himself. Instead, he chose to let taxpayers and donors foot the bill. Schwalb is very actively fundraising from affluent people. If you think he is going to be some kind of man of the people, when rich people make up his social circle and client base, good luck.
By raising money from DC residents, Schwalb will be beholden to DC voters. Who will Spiva be beholden to? Who will pay off his loans? Spiva could have made the same decisions as virtually every other candidate in the 2022 cycle, but didn't. The AG position, of any in the city, is the one where there should be no questions about funding. The Fair Election program is the best/only way to do that. In my opinion, it shows poor judgement on Spiva's part to not partake.
Who was Racine beholden to? Who paid off his loans?
