If anyone wants to be serious for a second part of the reason these women are depicted as being larger is because if you could gain weight you were considered healthy and fertile ie no parasites or diseases making you gaunt and stopping you from carrying a baby. Carrying extra weight also meant that you had money and usually came from a higher class which were the people supporting the arts. These depictions in part reflected the bodies of the artists patrons.  [/quote]
