Are quarter of the kids selected with the new process? I thought with the stay order, the entire admission pool will be with the new process
What’s the new process? Is this the top 1.5% from each middle school?
The new process requires that the students have completed Algebra Honors by 8th grade. They need to have 2 years of Honors math and science. They need to have at least 2 other Honors Courses. They need a GPA of 3.5 They need to complete the time essays/math problem essay. The kids who meet all the requirements are selected. Each MS seats the top 1.5% of applicants who meet the requirements. After that there is some process of filling the remaining seats with the kids who were not in the top 1.5% from each MS. I am not sure how that is decided.
For purposes of clarification, the middle school itself has no role in selecting the students who are admitted. Rather, the Admissions Office selects a number from each middle school that is equivalent to 1.5% of their total number of 8th graders - in most cases, somewhere between 6 and 12 students.
