I think the risk of life-threatening complications for me, a healthy 36yo, is less than the risk of getting into an accident on the beltway.  And of course it's wise to go with an experienced surgeon with a good track record.  But to address the crux of your question -- yes, I did take a physical risk for aesthetic reasons.  I just didn't, and couldn't, feel happy with the body I had.  I guess I'm not as strong as some.  I feel a lot better about my body now, and it's making me want to be a healthier, more fit person. Ironic?? because the society, culture and socio-economic class that made this possible may have also made you think what you were born with wasn't enough. [/quote]

I find this strange for 2 reasons:

-You imply that poor people all must be happy with their bodies
-You assume that plastic surgery is unique to our culture and society, when in fact rates of plastic surgery are much greater on other parts of the world, in particular Central and South America, where it is accessible to people with less money than in the US. As a Colombian woman, I can assure you this is the truth. Colombian women will not run around looking like shit.[/quote]
