No, I'm in my 40s.  Preferred name is correct.  If a Jennifer wants to be a Jenny, then that's her preferred name.  Stop trying to fight when there isn't one. [/quote]

The same could be said from the opposite point of view. Stop trying to fight when there isn't one - people usually mean well and aren't trying to piss 'Jennifer' off by calling her Jenny.  [b]Most people don't mean to mispronounce, misspell,[/b] etc. I have two friends and a SIL who have the name 'Reina' - every single one of them pronounces it differently. I see them all the time, yet still, find a way to pronounce their name the wrong way.
