Why is MCPS behind the curve on this important issue. There is so much research on the topic that teenagers need more sleep and that their biological clocks are wired for them to go to bed later and wake up later. CA is requiring all high schools to start no earlier than 8.30 am starting this fall: https://hhsepitaph.com/12665/news/california-law-requires-new-bell-schedule-with-830-a-m-start-time/
They looked into this a few years ago. Not. Going. To. Happen. They need busses to run three routes, HS, MS, ES (not enough busses as is - and some in the county want more kids bussed further in the name of desegregation, but I digress). Many families in MoCo need their HS students to watch their ES students after school (which means HS students need to be done sooner to pick up and watch ES students) Many HS students in MoCo work after school to help support their family. As in help pay the rent and put food on the table. They can't be in school later, because they need to work. Many HS sports and activities and also outside sports and activities happen after school. If school were later Many would have trouble attending and/or they'd get out so late it would defeat the purpose. While none of the above may apply to YOUR family, they do formany, many other families. So get over it, because, Not. Going. To. Happen.
