I opened this thread knowing it would quickly turn into "whataboutism" A president telling lies either matters or it doesn't. Pick a side that isn't tied to which president is talking. Personally, I think the reasoning that Trump did something so therefore we can't call out that thing in this administration is wrongheaded and dangerous.
The people complaining about Biden said nothing when Trump lied tens of thousands of times including inciting a mob to storm the Capitol, so I can’t imagine them caring about this.
Right, and the people who don’t care about Biden’s latest complained loudly about every time Trump lied or misspoke. The hypocrisy goes both ways. It is exhausting and unproductive.
Lying about an insurrection on our democracy=misspeaking about distance traveled. Got it.
I didn’t say that. There were many others instances in the four years prior to the insurrection in which Trump said things that were either outright lies or misspeaking, starting with the crowd size at his inauguration. And each of them generated huge outcry.
Did Biden demand a Park Service investigation into his Xi mileage claim?
No. What is your point? Do you dispute that there was public outcry over each of Trump's lies, both significant and insignificant? https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/politics/trump-claims/ https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2021/01/24/trumps-false-or-misleading-claims-total-30573-over-four-years/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veracity_of_statements_by_Donald_Trump
Trump lied about EVERYTHING. Big and small, consequential and in inconsequential. And you and your ilk did not care. So the same applies here.
The bolded makes me angry and sad. You don't know me. Is it so inconceivable that there could be people that despised Trump but that are also willing to acknowledge that the current administration is less than perfect and that this president also lies and tells mistruths and that is just as wrong as when Trump did it?
When you try to put Biden’s and Trump’s lies in the same footing then sorry not sorry that I don’t take you seriously.
I think you are missing my point. Let's forget Trump for a minute. Do you think it is OK for Biden to lie? My point is that if lying is wrong, it should be wrong no matter who says it. To be clear- I am NOT trying to say that overall Biden is as bad as Trump. He most certainly is not. What I am saying is that a president should not lie to the public. A president should take care to not exaggerate or make "misstatements." If we are going to restore faith in government, that has to matter.
