Our school has tested PCR weekly with 25 hour results for nearly 2 years and our cost was $0. It was covered by insurance. They worked with a company that did it on campus and billed direct to our insurance with the proper codes . I would not be ok with 1500 expense!
OP here. To be clear, the $1500 isn't for on campus testing. The weekly on campus testing at our Big-3 is included in our tuition. This is for testing because your kid has a cough or runny nose and can't come to school because those are considered COVID symptoms. So, we have to get DS tested off campus, with a PCR test, in order for him to return to school. If we did the DC free PCR test, it takes about 4 days for results to come back. So, if we want DS to return to school as quickly as possible, i.e., the next day, we have to get a rapid PCR test. We usually go to Same Day Georgetown and pay between $175 and $225 for the 1-2 hour results. It's annoying.
You are choosing private tests that are full pay for 1 hour results. Of course you will pay a premium. Free is available so stop complaining.
I don’t want DS to have to miss more than one day of school, so we pay for the rapid test. We can afford to pay extra. But my point is if you can’t pay for it, then your kid has to stay home longer than a kid whose parents can pay for the test. And there’s no virtual option anymore for kids who need to stay at home. This struck me as unfair. If you don’t care, you don’t need to bother to post.
