The best markers of status are the ones that can’t be seen from afar with the naked eye: an excellent credit score, no credit card balance, no debt, a house (no matter what it looks like) in a W zone, an advanced degree, and a high-end health insurance plan.
 Your advanced degree is a status signifier. I took out obscene loans for an extremely expensive law school over a good one that offered me money because I wanted that name on my resume. (I'm kind of an eff up and I figured that I could at least appear smart and like I had things somewhat together, with a degree from that school. I was in my 20s; I didn't know better.) And a house is also a status signifier. I hope you understand that.
It apparently didn’t teach you how to read.
