Can we start a trend where women can look fashionable at the beach but also have their upper thighs covered like men do?
+100 I hate that anything with more coverage than underwear is deemed frumpy or assumed that you're trying to hide something.
Agreed. The idea that all women should have to wax/trim their bikini line in order to wear underwear on the beach or to the pool has always struck me as so deeply misogynist. But if you don't you are a hippie or a prude. I think it's better than it was 10 years ago (definitely more full coverage options now than there were in 2010) but it still feels like there's stigma. I really hate it. My DH will sometimes propose impromptu beach and pool days in the summer and then get annoyed with me if I don't immediately jump at the chance. But the truth is that I'm not always "swimwear ready" and don't always feel like getting myself there on a dime. At those times I am so envious of the way men get to go through the world, with their bodies always acceptable for pretty much any setting. That sounds so liberating to me.
You have options, you are choosing not to take them. There are LOADS of swim shorts, swim skirts out there that provide all the coverage you want. Also, if you have some stubble, it's ok for it to JUST SHOW. Honestly! The world will not end. Look, I like to be groomed too, so I am not judging that impulse. But I have definitely had days where it's not done and that's ok. I may put on a coverup or pair of shorts once I get out of the water, but I still go and enjoy and swim. Find a way to make it work for you to be impulsive because you are right, it is DEEPLY misogynistic to expect otherwise from other women. So also maybe stop yourself before you critique another woman on the beach in the too small bikini also.
