I also pack in oats, corn meal, fat from browning ground beef. Let it cool and solify, cut into squares, store in fridge. I also add a good dusting of ground red pepper to discourage mammals. Even with the red pepper, sometimes raccoons will take down the suet feeders and haul them away. I put it out starting in January when food is getting scarce and the weather is really cold or snowy.
