Wondering stuff like: 1 What field are you in? Seems to be a lot of attorneys Space time traveling SAHM 🦄🚀 but hope to become self employed artist and writer eventually. Background: medical related/ art/ philosophy/ theology. 2 Where did you grow up? Other side of the world in the subtropics. 3 At what age did you move to the DMV and why? DH’s job. Relatively safe place for our then very young, oldest DC since we narrowly escaped violent riots in previous post (lived through a coup later). I quickly gained employment in very interesting field but DC both had special needs and needed me more than the formal economy did. I love the diversity, quirky history and vibrant undercurrents of life in DC. 4 Did you or are you planning to retire here? Open to that and other possibilities. We do have a great life here but it will depend where works best for everyone in our immediate family. 5 Does the tone on here bother you? Sometimes (mosquito bites in summer level of annoyance) but the moderators are swift to remove pointlessly offensive stuff. I do feel sad for some OPs when their points and questions raised are misconstrued to be much more malignant than obviously intended. Also, it is tiresome when posters play Gotcha games with trivial side bars, miss the main points of arguments being made, and deliver misdirected rebukes in artless ways. I do enjoy creative edgy snark though. The DCUM positives outweigh the negatives in terms of providing safe, anonymous, adult play ground. Some posts are very funny to the point that I feel smooth Italian coffee blowing through my nostrils as I snort. I enjoy some of the one line bomb artists and hope to emulate that style when I grow up. Some Posts are poignant and heart breaking, while others illuminate different ways of thinking that had previously evaded me. I enjoy communicating with different types of people without usual RL need for small talk. DCUM is like a variety act show at the Kennedy Center Millennial Stage -/ but where no one has to audition to get a role. Some have gifted voices and can sing, dance and act while others are tone deaf, out of tune and forget their lines. Some derail different numbers to redirect topics to whatever their obsessions are. The show makes me laugh, often in places where that is not intended. The main theme of the show seems to be that we all flawed and annoying in our own unique ways.
