Thanks for sharing this Jeff. I'm an Asian American who is also a Republican. I don't believe her views represent the mainstream in the Republican party. The existence of people like her doesn't change my preference for political positions aligned with classical liberalism, which currently is the Republican party. There are terrible people who call themselves Republicans and I am not going to abandon my values just because there are some bad people who hold abhorrent views also have these same values.
Can I just say...a party that doesn't cancel a President or any leadership that repeatedly stokes hate by referring to a 'K*ng Flu virus' or 'China virus' is one that represents the mainstream in the Republican party. You can't have it both ways, you either see this anti-Asian rhetoric solely in GOP leadership or you don't. Vote for them or don't. But don't complain when more anti-asian policies and rhetoric are espoused.
 It's not having it both ways for me to support the parts of Republican party platform I agree with even though there are terrible people in the party. I'll note that Republican is the party that is trying to put in place a merit-based immigration system, one which will predominantly benefit Asian Americans. Democrats are fighting tooth and nail against such a merit-based system.
Most Asian Americans who came here prior to 2000 were not highly educated, my family included. If Trump had been in office when my Asian immigrant family tried to come to the US, we would not have been able to immigrate here. You can say, "That was then, this is now", but that would be a "shut the door behind me" attitude. Also, a lot of Asian Americans came here via family connections, mine included. I'm a PP who stated that I used to be a R. As a PP stated.. "that ship has sailed". The R party of today is no longer the party of Reagan. Even Bush can't stand Trump. During Trump's tenure, many high profiled Rs left the party. There's a reason for that. Do you really think that white Rs will be so happy to have educated Asian Americans take over the corporate world, elite institutions, politics? No. We're just a convenience for them. The Model Minority myth was created by white people in power against the poorer African American group. Why do you suppose the vast majority of Asian Americans are no longer Rs? Back in the 80s, the majority of Asian Americans were Rs, but slowly that's shifted. https://theconversation.com/asian-americans-political-preferences-have-flipped-from-red-to-blue-145577 Why do you suppose this racist person wrote what she did? She didn't call out Latinos. She called out Asians.
It's rather irrational for you to make a claim with insufficient evidence. Research shows that Asian immigrants have always trended to be higher educated than US Born persons, even prior to 2000s: https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2018/09/14/education-levels-of-u-s-immigrants-are-on-the-rise/ I also don't think it's fair to judge what people would have done outside of the era they live in. People are the product of their environments. Would AOC be so fond of socialism during the cold war era? We don't know. If you were a Republican and are no longer, then you were never a Republican to begin with. This is especially born out by comments such as this is no longer Reagan's party or Bush's party. Republicanism is an idea, it's not built around idealized personalities like JFK or Obama. Yes, there are a lot of people who idolized/idolizes Reagan, but those people are misguided if they think one person or even a small group of people is representative of Republicans. I'm part of the party. There are those who are trying to lead it astray, but it's up to me to be steadfast in holding onto ideals that I believe in, and not let those people drive me away from the convictions that I live by.
