Here’s another:
Children seem to be only mildly ill, for the most part, in New Jersey, said Dr. Jennifer Owensby of the pediatric critical care division at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. "We are definitely seeing an increase in Covid-positive children, but they are not necessarily coming in with Covid symptoms," Owensby said. The kids are coming in for some other treatment, she said, and are testing positive when they are screened.
https://www.cnn.com/2021/12/27/health/covid-kids-hospitals/index.html
Youd have to look at admisision data to see why the kids were admitted, ages, and whether they are in group care to determine if the rising "surge" in asymptomatic cases is a threat to community transmission. Pediatric cases are for ages 0-19. Ages 5-19 can be vaccinated. Im specifically talking about 0-5 because they 1. cant be vaccinated 2. kids <8 cant legally be left alone when closures happen whether it be school or daycare. They need supervision. My issue is not with the requirements its that the restrictions are for the safety of the community but the community is doing nothing to support kids of this age and their parents. As an adult you can be sick, know you are sick, even have a COVID + test and still go to work. The whole system is built on the honor system. No one at the HD is checking in to make sure you are isolated. No one is calling your work and saying this person is excused. When that can happen but conversely schools require PCR to return, will send home for 1 symptom, require quarantines, etc. it becomes a little performative and silly.
